The month of May marks the solemn sixth anniversary of the murder of George Floyd. The third annual Momentum Summit, August 11-13 & 18th, 2026, organized by Minnesota based Leverette Weekes, builds on a legacy of bringing Minnesota’s philanthropy and national community response lessons during moments of crisis — from the aftermath of Floyd’s murder in 2020 to the ICE raids of 2026- to Martha’s Vineyard.
After gathering philanthropists, foundation leaders, and investors, in its inaugural year, 2025’s Summit focused on storytelling as a strategy and equity-centered funding. Now, in the third year, Momentum Summit is poised to confront even more urgent challenges, from the high stakes of the midterm elections to the challenge of building generational success in the age of AI.
Held during Black Philanthropy Month, the Summit presents its Momentum Award to leaders who courageously advance inclusivity across the philanthropic sector. The 2024 recipients were Wenda Weekes Moore, retired Chair of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Board, and La June Montgomery Tabron, W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s President and CEO.
This year’s title sponsor, Best Buy, a champion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education, supported the Momentum Summit’s growth from a one-day gathering in 2024 to a nearly two-week convening in 2026.
